Care Apparel Association Limited

Yan Chai Hospital
EducationHealthTsin Wan (with the meaning of “shallow bay”), the original name of Tsuen Wan, was a small town along the coast and hills of West New Territories with low population and poor transportation. The local residents mostly engaged with fishing and farming. In the mid-20th century, the Hong Kong Government planned to develop Tsuen Wan as one of the “Satellite Towns”. Since then, Tsuen Wan was developed rapidly. Influx of working labours and grassroots led to insatiable demand of medical facilities, as there was only one clinic in the district, the “Tsuen Wan Trade Association Residents Clinic”. Residents in Tsuen Wan could only go to Kowloon for better medical treatments. On 15 June 1959, Mr. Yip Tak-fan, the Chairman of Tsuen Wan Trade Association, proposed to build a local hospital to cope with increasing medical demands. He lined up local leaders and businessmen, Mr. Chow Kwan-shing, Mr. Hui Tim, Mr. Yau Tze-tin and Mr. Ho Chuen-yiu, and started the preparatory work for the establishment of Yan Chai Hospital. In early 1962, the Tsuen Wan Trade Association formed the "Organising Committee for the Founding of Yan Chai Hospital". Unfortunately, Mr. Yip Tak-fan fell sick from overwork and passed away on 25 August 1962. Mr. Deacon Chiu Te-kan was elected to the Chairman of the Tsuen Wan Trade Association and carried on Mr. Yip’s unfinished mission. In that period, Tsuen Wan Rural Committee provided great assistance for the establishment of Yan Chai Hospital.

Island Waldorf School Limited
EducationStarted in September 2017, Island Waldorf School is the first school on Hong Kong island to offer high quality Waldorf education to children aged 3-14. It is also a non-profit, bilingual Waldorf school. By 2021/22, we offer classes from lower kindergarten to Class 6. We will grow organically by adding one more class over each of the following years until we reach grade 8. Our campuses are located in Kennedy Town and Shek Tong Tsui and are easily accessible by public transport. Given the prevalence of highly stressful exam-oriented educational cultures in Asia, and also with recent events inflicting varying degrees of individual and collective trauma, the health-giving quality of the Steiner Waldorf education is much needed by the children and their families in Hong Kong. The pedagogy helps children develop physical, emotional, intellectual, personal, social, artistic, and practical skills in an integrated and holistic manner; truly an education of the head-heart-hands. With strong emphasis on freedom and creativity, a high value is placed on child-initiated play in the early years, imagination in the primary school and critical thinking at secondary level. Diversity among children is embraced in an atmosphere of trust and reverence of the individual, the community, and the earth. The Island Waldorf School offers this healing education in Hong Kong since 2017. The student body has grown from 11 to 100 with classes from kindergarten to Class 6. IWS will add classes yearly until Class 8. IWS is entirely funded by parents' contribution and community donations. Find out more about us at iws.edu.hk!

CODA Hong Kong Limited
ABOUT US According to statistics overseas, 90% of Children of Deaf Adults (CODA) are hearing. Naturally, CODAs are bilingual (of both sign and oral languages) and bicultural (of both hearing and non-hearing cultures). However, such an important aspect has largely been overlooked by the society. The education and welfare package for CODAs is far from adequate. The development of intellectual, physical and emotional health of CODAs has suffered as a result. CODA(HK) is the first of its kind in Asia. Established in 2013, its objectives are to help CODAs of Hong Kong understand and acknowledge their special identity as bilingual and bicultural, learn and develop potential skills, build a self-help community, and adopt positive outlooks of life. CODAs are the second generation of deaf people. We are therefore concerned about government policies of deaf welfare and sign language. Through education, advocacy, publication and academic research, we promote knowledge of sign language and deaf culture to the public and various stakeholders. We believe in building a society in which the deaf and the hearing integrate harmoniously. OBJECTIVES To gather children of deaf adults so that they can support and care for each other, develop positive values, and achieve self-acknowledgement of their identity; To promote family cohesion and facilitate communication between deaf parents and CODAs; To celebrate CODAs’ bilingual and bicultural identity, and raise the public’s awareness of sign language and deaf culture; To actively fight for basic rights of deaf people; To unite and align with hearing people from various walks of life, who are concerned about, and supportive of deaf culture and deaf rights; to build a society in which the deaf and the hearing integrate harmoniously. GOALS Through means of education, self-help, advocacy etc., (i) help CODAs develop and grow; (ii) promote harmony in deaf families; (iii) mobilise the society in creating a culture of the hearing and the deaf walking together, hand-in-hand. https://www.instagram.com/codahk/ https://www.youtube.com/@CODAHongKong
