Hong Kong Dog Rescue Limited
Environment and AnimalsHKDR was founded in 2003 for the specific purpose of saving dogs and puppies from the Hong Kong Government’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) Animal Management Centres, where around 10,000 dogs and puppies are destroyed every year. A lot them of were family pets that have been abandoned on the street or in country parks, while others have been directly surrendered. Many are puppies that are the result of irresponsible owners not desexing their pets, or are those born to abandoned or stray dogs. They all have one thing in common and that is that they are homeless and unwanted, and have just four days to live unless they are chosen for re-homing. HKDR is funded solely by private donations, sponsorship through the Life Saver Club programme, the sale of HKDR merchandise and fundraising events. All of the dogs and puppies that HKDR take in for re-homing are health checked, vaccinated, given flea, tick and heartworm prevention and de-sexed. Those who require additional veterinary treatment or surgery are given the best available. Dogs with behaviour problems are rehabilitated using Positive Reinforcement training methods to make them ready for adoption. HKDR relies heavily on the time and efforts of dedicated volunteers to be able to operate and many of the important functions of the organisation are handled solely by such volunteers, such as our Foster and Life Saver Club programmes, and even the Volunteer Coordination itself. HKDR is proud to be a No Kill Organisation, meaning that no dog under our care will be euthanised for any reason other than when it is the only humane option.

EducationHuman ServicesThe Help The Blind Foundation was founded in Hong Kong by Mr. D.K. Patel, retired Senior Economist, HSBC, Hong Kong, in 2005 with prominent local residents as directors. Initially, the focus of the foundation was to help blind school-going children by building/improving existing schools. Research showed that integrated education, rather than education in segregated schools of the blind, prepared them better for employability in the real world – that prompted Mr. D.K. Patel, to provide visually impaired students in India access to university education in regular colleges, which alone would give them the confidence to integrate into society and empower them to obtain a reasonable employment. HTBF India was hence established in Chennai in 2010 with academics and professionals as Trustees to implement the mission of the Foundation and the journey of the Foundation began in earnest with Mr. Patel at its helm. Vision Successfully elevate economic status of the Visually Impaired and improve their image in the eyes of the society.
