About the organisation
Rooftop Institute was co-founded in 2016 by Hong Kong artists Yim Sui Fong, Law Yuk Mui, and Professor Frank Vigneron, Chair of the Department of Fine Arts at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Since its establishment, Rooftop Institute has organised artist-led educational research and practice within the context of the present social conditions, as well as Hong Kong’s position in Asian history and culture. It strongly believes in the transformative power of artist-led learning, and is one of the few community-level charities in Hong Kong focusing on promoting community-based education through art.
Mission
● Advocate for the inherent creativity in every individual, fostering collective creativity within families and appreciating each family member's individuality and uniqueness ● Promote art as a transformative force to address parenting challenges, strengthen family bonds, and enhance emotional well-being and resilience ● Collaborate with the community as a school, facilitating co-learning among parents and promoting peer support ● Utilise art as a tool for learning and parenting, engaging individuals socially and fostering meaningful interactions ● Engage with artists as impactful contributors to education, influencing values education, art learning, and innovative thinking ● Promote and implement artist-led learning as a significant pedagogical approach, providing engaging resources for families and empowering children's creativity ● Foster mutual respect and learning between parents and children, magnifying children's voices and encouraging their empowerment
