- Established in 1993, the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Academy) is an independent institution with statutory power to organise, monitor, assess and accredit all medical and dental specialist training, and the responsibility to oversee the continuing medical education and continuous professional development to maintain the standard of specialists practising in Hong Kong. The powers of the Academy are laid out in the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Ordinance (Cap. 419), Regulations and Bylaws. The objectives of the Academy are: a. to promote the advancement of the art and science of medicine; b. to foster the development of i. postgraduate medical education and continuing medical education; ii. the study and practice of medicine and its specialties; and iii. medical research; c. to promote i. the integrity of the medical profession; ii. ethical conduct in the practice of medicine and its specialties; and iii. the improvement of the standards of such practice through training, programme approved by the Academy; d. to promote the improvement of health care for Hong Kong citizen; e. to foster a spirit of co-operation among medical practitioners; and f. to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas in relation to all aspects of the art and science of medicine and matters connected with the medical profession.
- 2022 Foundation, as a non-profit organization, seeks to facilitate the development of a long-term vision of what Hong Kong can accomplish by deepening and widening its knowledge platform. Mission: Recognizing the needs for Hong Kong to re-position itself in the global arena and the importance of developing reliable data and sound knowledge in the decision-making process, the 2022 Foundation will endeavor: 1. to serve as a round table of bringing together experts and leaders from academe, business, government and other sectors from Hong Kong, Mainland China and abroad into active cooperation in the provision of objective and cogent data to decision makers of Hong Kong 2. to foster cooperation in research in order to secure a better understanding of Hong Kong so that decisions can be made based on sound knowledge and reliable data 3. to promote, stimulate and provide complementary funding for relevant studies that have significant interests 4. to gather and collate technical information and to disseminate such information to the public
