HandsOn Hong Kong Limited
Arts and Culture and HumanitiesHandsOn Hong Kong is a registered charity in Hong Kong, founded in 2007. We develops service programs to help local, under-served non-profit organizations and connect them with the volunteer manpower they need to achieve their mission. With a record 1.65 million Hong Kong people living in poverty, it is critical that we each do our part to support communities in need. At HandsOn we harness the spirit to serve in our city by empowering everyone in Hong Kong to volunteer. Every month, our team runs 200 volunteer activities on the HandsOn calendar as a free service. Each activity mobilizes Hongkongers to support under-resourced local charities and the vulnerable groups they serve. HandsOn provides behind-the-scenes support and trusted advisory to our charity partners year-round, serving as a vital extension of their teams. The spirit to serve in Hong Kong is stronger than ever, with over 45,000 volunteers in the HandsOn community. They support and connect with tens of thousands of people in need and critical causes every year. Yan Chai Hospital
EducationTsin Wan (with the meaning of “shallow bay”), the original name of Tsuen Wan, was a small town along the coast and hills of West New Territories with low population and poor transportation. The local residents mostly engaged with fishing and farming. In the mid-20th century, the Hong Kong Government planned to develop Tsuen Wan as one of the “Satellite Towns”. Since then, Tsuen Wan was developed rapidly. Influx of working labours and grassroots led to insatiable demand of medical facilities, as there was only one clinic in the district, the “Tsuen Wan Trade Association Residents Clinic”. Residents in Tsuen Wan could only go to Kowloon for better medical treatments. On 15 June 1959, Mr. Yip Tak-fan, the Chairman of Tsuen Wan Trade Association, proposed to build a local hospital to cope with increasing medical demands. He lined up local leaders and businessmen, Mr. Chow Kwan-shing, Mr. Hui Tim, Mr. Yau Tze-tin and Mr. Ho Chuen-yiu, and started the preparatory work for the establishment of Yan Chai Hospital. In early 1962, the Tsuen Wan Trade Association formed the "Organising Committee for the Founding of Yan Chai Hospital". Unfortunately, Mr. Yip Tak-fan fell sick from overwork and passed away on 25 August 1962. Mr. Deacon Chiu Te-kan was elected to the Chairman of the Tsuen Wan Trade Association and carried on Mr. Yip’s unfinished mission. In that period, Tsuen Wan Rural Committee provided great assistance for the establishment of Yan Chai Hospital.

Starfish Charitable Foundation Limited
HealthStarfish was founded in 2004 with a mission to provide medical treatments and feeding homes to orphans in mainland China. We focus on providing meaningful support and resources to underprivileged children in Hong Kong. Poverty is serious in Hong Kong: nearly every one in five children in Hong Kong is living in poverty. Underprivileged children stuck in poverty cycle: Children who grow up in low-income households tend to have less access to opportunities and therefore are more likely to remain poor in adulthood. Compounded with the lack of space in Hong Kong, underprivileged children are deprived of an environment where they can learn and develop happily and healthily. More than just formal education is needed: The Hong Kong government provides basic subsidies for school fees and supplies, but these are not sufficient. Underprivileged children are often unable to participate in the extra-curricular activities and outdoor activities that develop skills such as resilience and confidence, and ultimately enhance social mobility. It is Starfish’s mission to close the opportunity gap by providing much needed opportunities to underprivileged children in Hong Kong. We do not believe that the underprivileged should ‘lose at starting line’. Starfish’s goal is to close the opportunity gap and equalize opportunities. We strongly believe every child is worth investing in, and only if we invest in our children we can drive societal changes and create a more harmonious society.
