EducationThe China Oxford Scholarship Fund (COSF) awards scholarships to students from the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong and Macau who have won a place for postgraduate degree studies on a full-time basis at the University of Oxford. Up to twenty scholarships are awarded annually. Preference is given to those who are studying in the United Kingdom for the first time. Successful candidates are those of the highest calibre studying in any subject. They are chosen for their academic excellence, financial need, leadership quality and their commitment to contribute to the development of China.

Most of us live in Hong Kong but since we registered ourselves as a charity in 2003, an increasing number of us have come from Taiwan, Singapore, England, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Greece, Bermuda and the Mainland. Many of us take part in ensuring that our services reached those we aimed to serve. Many more of us help spread our message. We see those we helped as our equals. We see them as people who require temporary assistance and who lack some guidance only. Once they overcome their difficulties , they will shine, more so than ever. We see ourselves as those who are privileged to have been tasked with the mission of providing help. We are humbled by the experiences we gained in the process. Chater Masonic Scholarship Fund Trust
EducationThe Chater Masonic Scholarship Fund Trust was established in 1929 after Sir Catchick Paul Chater (1846-1926) ’s death to honor his contributions to Freemasonry and charities in Hong Kong. Sir Paul Chater was born in Calcutta and later moved to Hong Kong. Arriving in 1864, he started a job at the Bank of Hindustan but resigned after two years to start a gold bullion exchange brokerage. In 1868, he formed another brokerage company, Chater & Mody. Later he established The Hongkong Land company, Hong Kong Electric, The Peak Tram, The Star Ferry and the Hong Kong Tramway and helped to create the world city it is today. He was knighted in 1902. Chater Garden, Chater House, Chater Road, and Catchick Street were named after him. Sir Paul Chater became a Freemason in 1873. Being a Freemason and himself being orphaned at an early age, he recognized the importance of education and practicing two of the three principles of Freemasonry, brotherly love and relief. During his life, he was always ready to help charities when approached.
