金文泰中學的前身為「香港官立漢文中學」，於1926年3月1日開辦，為香港歷史最悠久的官立中文中學。歷年來，學校培育畢業生達數千名，校友遍佈各行各業，世界各地，表現優異，為社會作出卓著的貢獻。同時，歷屆校友都積極回饋母校，作為母校強大的支援。
