About the organisation
Feeding Hong Kong is a Hong Kong registered charity established in 2011. We are Hong Kong’s sole accredited member of the Global Food Banking Network, an international organisation dedicated to creating and strengthening food banks and national food bank networks. Every day, we collect surplus food from producers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers and caterers and deliver it to a network of partner charities, who in turn, provide food to vulnerable communities in Hong Kong. By supporting existing grassroots feeding programmes, we make efficient use of established distribution channels and can focus our own resources on the highest standards in food collection, storage and transportation. Last year, we rescued over 1,250 tonnes of surplus food, saved 2.4 million kgs in carbon emissions and supported 3.7 million meals for vulnerable communities
Mission
The mission of Feeding Hong Kong is to fight hunger in the city and reduce the amount of quality food being sent to the landfills. Each day, the agency collect high quality food that would otherwise be thrown away, sort and store it, and then redistribute it to a network of welfare organisations, who in turn feed thousands of people in need. Feeding Hong Kong also works to raise awareness about poverty and food insecurity in Hong Kong and promote healthy eating and nutritional education to the most vulnerable groups in the community.
