About the organisation
Public Design started as a research and consultancy institution Public Design Lab Ltd in 2018, with a primary focus on promoting and developing inclusive public environments, facilities, and street furniture. Inspired by the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Public Design is an extension of the company’s remit to serve the needs of the deprived and support social organisations to maximise their impact through design strategies that stimulate economic growth, address social needs, and enforce environmental protection. We aim to inspire new ideas, encourage public dialogue, and inform government policy through the power of design thinking. We build on past successes to help improve lives today and meet the challenges of tomorrow. From education and equality to health and well-being, we are always taking action on sustainable projects to better our city and our world.
Mission statement
Mission Statement We are committed to pioneer “design for good” and bringing about social change. We advocate for the value of inclusive public design in Hong Kong and beyond. Through actively engaging in interdisciplinary research and knowledge transfer such as exhibitions and public engagement programs, we aim to nurture designers with creativity and cultural and social awareness in public design. Vision Statement We see a future where the role and value of design are recognised as a fundamental creator of value that enables happier, healthier, and safer lives for everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, ideologies, and cultural perspectives. Through the power of design, we improve processes, make better products, and build better places.
