About the organisation
HKFoodWorks is a registered charity dedicated to sustainable food futures, leading the way through research and community action for a better tomorrow. Breadline is our food rescue programme. Our web application connects volunteers to bakeries to collect food surpluses just-in-time for those who need it. It is Hong Kong’s first public digital platform for food rescue. We collaborate with community partners to serve those experiencing homelessness, low income, migrant and refugee families, the elderly and the intellectually disabled communities. We have been operating since 2020 and have by supported by over 3,000 volunteers to date.
Mission
HK Foodworks’ mission is to prevent food waste, therefore reducing hunger and improving the environment. We envision a world where all food is used to its true potential, whether by humans, animals or plants, and none of it is sent to landfill.

- Does a city need its farmers?
City farmers in Hong Kong are a dying breed. There are less than 2500 local farm operators, producing less than 2% of the vegetables we eat and only around 7% of the poultry and pork we consume. The post Does a city need its farmers? appeared first on HKFoodWorks.
