About the organisation
At A Plastic Ocean Foundation, we are dedicated to restoring marine ecosystems and fostering a sustainable future. As the creators of the award-winning documentary A Plastic Ocean, we have inspired millions to take action against plastic pollution and environmental degradation. Our initiatives focus on People Empowerment and Nature-Based Science Approaches, tackling ocean conservation, waste management, and climate resilience: #OneTonneLess – Beach cleanups & ghost net removal to reduce ocean waste. #GreenCollar – Training young ESG leaders for a sustainable future. #BlueOceanSchoolNetwork – Promoting ocean literacy in schools. #NbS-ProjectProsperity – Bamboo afforestation to restore ecosystems. #NbS-LivingShoreline – Nature-based solutions for coastal resilience. #NbS-BioCircularity – Black Soldier Fly technology for food waste recycling. Join us in protecting our oceans and shaping a greener, bluer future!
Mission
Water covers over two-thirds of the earth, and Hong Kong is surrounded by water. Currently, blue marine initiatives are only a small subset of green sustainability programs at most organizations. The tide is changing; we, A Plastic Ocean Foundation are advocating for businesses to prioritize blue initiatives as separate from green. Worldwide, organizations are starting to set separate budgets and KPIs for blue initiatives; we encourage all organizations to adopt this practice. 80% of ocean plastic waste originates from land activities, therefore for our post-Covid world, simply focusing on green recovery is not enough, blue recovery is a greater priority. In addition, we cooperate with a number of social service organizations to jointly change the public's attitude towards plastic and plastic use habits.
