PETA entities have more than 9 million members and supporters globally. PETA Asia is dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals. It operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way and focuses on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment business. It also works on a variety of other issues, including spaying and neutering and the killing of “pests.” PETA Asia works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns. Located in Hong Kong, PETA Asia is the base for animal-rights campaigns across Asia, a region that is home to more than one-third of the world’s population. PETA Asia may be young, but it has already created quite a stir with attention-grabbing ads and groundbreaking protests in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, and Japan, where public demonstrations are rare. PETA Asia has already won victories big and small for animals—from shutting down a roadside zoo in Vietnam to distributing more than 35,000 vegetarian starter kits in the Philippines.

WHO ARE WE? Hong Kong Shark Foundation (HKSF) is a registered charity dedicated exclusively to shark conservation. HK Saving Cat and Dog Association Limited

Hong Kong Saving Cat and Dog Association (HKSCDA) is a non-profit charitable organization established on 1st April 2007. Our mission is to provide food, medical treatment, neutering and adoption services for cats and dogs. Apart from rescuing them from animal breeding farms, we also provide assistance to sick or injured cats and dogs on the street. We would also take care of abandoned pets and try our best to find trustworthy homes for them. The slogan of our organization is “give animals a second chance”. Through rescuing and re-homing, we aim to prevent cats and dogs from sickness, abuse or injury. We adopt a “no kill” policy, where we never give up on our animals, even when the shelter is full. With our organization reaching its 10th anniversary soon, we have successfully found blissful homes for more than 2,400 cats and dogs. Despite all the hardships and owing thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, our premise has expanded from a small office of a few hundred square feet, to a 1,500 square-feet site inside an industrial building. With our love for animals, we sincerely hope to become a role model in society, contributing in making Hong Kong a better place for all living souls.

ABLE Charity first came together back in 1993 as a Grassroots environmental action group. It was founded as a direct consequence from a lack of protection and a voice, for Lamma’s environment. A campaign was launched to stop the reclamation of a beautiful beach on the island which resulted in a success story that led to the official registration of the group as a charity with the Hong Kong government where it remains so to this very day. The charity has had a colourful history with a considerable amount of success, yet has always chosen to keep a low profile in the grand scheme of things to just get on with it. The Vision The Lamma Forest is a natural resource for all generations present and future, one whose value will increase in the years to come. The land currently has no adequate protection so the vision is to rezone the land into a Conservation Area (CA) thereby safe guarding it for the future. The Lamma Forest is a gift for one and all to enjoy. Our Mission We want to raise awareness about a fundamental integral link between people and ecology. They are one and the same, yet our modern lifestyle inadvertently separated as well as distanced humans from their environments. This has had serious consequences which have become quite obvious today, but less so in the early 1990’s of Hong Kong. Consumers Acting for People and the Environment Limited (CAPE) is a non-profit organization that was established in 2003. In 2005, CAPE gained charitable status and has been tax-exempt under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Hong Kong). We are the first NGO in Hong Kong to emphasize the role of consumers in acting for environmental issues. While generally regarded as a green group, we define ourselves as a grassroots group that focuses on how modern consumption patterns have detrimental effects on the environment and on the lives of both modern and tribal peoples. The world is full of living beings of which the human race is only one species. However, our daily consumption exploits nature. Indigenous and traditional cultures recognize that they are but a part of a community of plant, animal, and spirit beings, and live in harmony with the land and the complex ecological systems upon which they depend. Our mission is to build a sense of responsibility and stewardship, thus shifting behavior towards responsible consumption.
