It was redeveloped in the 1990s to be a “seven-hall” timber monastic complex in the traditional style of the Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618-907) based on the Great East Hall of Foguang Temple in Shanxi (one of the surviving Tang Dynasty architectural works in China) and the Tang timber architecture depicted in Dunhuang Cave murals. Construction techniques and craftsmanship adhered strictly to the Tang Dynasty. After the successful re-development of the nunnery, Chi Lin collaborated with the government and developed the land which is to the south of Chi Lin.
