The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was first formed by a group of volunteers in 1903 and became active in 1921. Although we are the first charity in Hong Kong to deal with all aspects of animal welfare, we obtain around only 1% of our funding from the government. The rest of our funding comes from the generosity of the general public, for which we are extremely grateful. It is a constant challenge to raise the funds necessary to continue our work. We believe that animals are living creatures which like humans, are able to feel pain, hunger and thirst. We should not inflict any suffering upon our fellow creatures just because they can't speak.

In 2015, the UN Climate Summit (COP21) adopted The Paris Agreement to limit temperature rise. CCIL as an observer in COP21 was motivated to stimulate the Hong Kong community into climate action, linking global, regional and local climate agenda. CCIL is registered under the laws of Hong Kong as a non-profit and tax-exempt charity.

Earth.Org is a not-for-profit environmental organisation based in Hong Kong. Our aim is to bring attention to what is happening to natural ecosystems worldwide. We advocate for sustainable economic policies, for the protection of the natural environment and an extension of governance or oversight to cover the global commons. Impact and Reach As an Environmental News & Data Platform, we aim to illustrate the repercussions of climate change on the human habitat with power data journalism using web and social media to reach global audiences. By extracting powerful insights from data and making this understandable for a wide audience, even for kids, we bring climate change science alive and reach new audiences. Our aim – to be ‘the BBC of environmental news’. What we do makes a real difference. We are fighting for climate justice and action. We are helping Conservation NGOs and to safeguard wildlife – including endangered species – from threats such as habitat loss and poaching. We are working hard to educate and inform diverse audiences, in order to overcome temporal conceptualisation difficulties and the issue of ‘baseline shifting’. But we can’t do it alone: our successes are only possible due to our volunteers, partners, readers and the generosity of our supporters.

The Environment and Conservation Fund Ordinance (Cap. 450), which established the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF), was enacted in June 1994. The ECF came into operation in August 1994. Section 5 of the Ordinance (Cap. 450) provides for the Secretary for Environment and Ecology to act as the trustee of the ECF. Section 7 of the Ordinance provides for the establishment of an Environment and Conservation Fund Committee.

While sharks and the shark fin trade have been from the very start a core focus of BLOOM HK's research and programmes, and continues to remain so, our work has since grown to give attention to other topics that are also of pressing conservation significance in Hong Kong, including the live reef food fish trade, sustainable seafood, trade in mobulid gill plates, and local marine biodiversity conservation and research. The main objective of FF is to promote a spirit of sharing and to encourage others to cherish and conserve material goods. Our foundation works to acquire unused and excessive supplies from commercial organizations. We then act as a platform to transfer these excessive goods to other charitable organizations that are in need. Through this work, it is our goal to see a reduction of waste and to address the problem of mismatched resources.

Founded in 2015, Cats in Hope Charitable Foundation Limited began by taking care of local stray cats and later expanded its services to perform sterilization. The increasing number of homeless stray cats, exacerbated by government land resumptions displacing their habitats, has led to a rise in abuse and attacks. To address this urgent need, our dedicated volunteers established a shelter, providing a safe haven for these vulnerable animals while they await loving homes. With the growing demand for our rescue services, the financial burden of food and medical care has also increased. Community support is now more critical than ever to help us save more lives and improve stray cat welfare. To date, we have rescued over a thousand stray cats, and currently provide shelter for over a hundred. Beyond the challenges posed by land resumptions, Cats in Hope also addresses the consequences of human actions, such as abandonment, neglect, and the dumping of cats by breeding farms. Recognizing the need for greater public awareness regarding responsible pet ownership and the long-standing neglect of community stray animal issues, we actively promote responsible breeding practices. Through various activities, sharing sessions, and collaborations with diverse organizations, Cats in Hope strives to create a harmonious community where animals and humans can coexist peacefully. 浪貓薈於2015年成立，最初的宗旨是為了照護社區的流浪貓，其後擴展至貓隻絕育服務。然而，隨著時間過去，我們發現越來越多無助的流浪貓，虐貓和貓隻遭犬隻攻擊的事件也日益頻繁。有鑑於此，義工們建立了這個收容所，希望能為這些毛孩提供一個安全的庇護所。 隨著需要救援的流浪貓數量不斷增加，我們的糧食和醫療支出也面臨了沉重的負擔。因此，我們衷心期盼社會大眾能夠支持我們，共同籌集資源，以拯救更多生命。至今，我們已成功救援超過一千隻流浪貓，其中大多數都是因為政府收地而失去家園，目前有近百隻流浪貓安置在我們的收容所中。 除了因收地而需要救援的個案外，浪貓薈也處理許多零星的救助案例，這些案例大多源自於人為因素，例如棄養、照顧不善導致貓隻生病，甚至是繁殖場遺棄的貓隻。我們深切體認到大眾對於責任飼養的認知明顯不足，而社區流浪動物的問題也長期受到忽視。為了改善這種情況，我們積極推廣責任飼養的觀念，希望藉此提升飼主對待寵物的認知與態度。透過舉辦各式各樣的活動和分享會，並與不同的團體合作，浪貓薈致力於創造一個動物與人類能夠和諧共處的友善環境。

The Environmental Management Association of Hong Kong (EMAHK) was founded in 2010. It was registered as a Society under the Hong Kong Societies Ordinance CAP.151 until March 2020 when it changed legal status and became registered as a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Ordinance Cap.622. At the same time, EMAHK received approval from the Inland Revenue Department to operate as a charitable institution in accordance with the Inland Revenue Ordinance Cap.112 Section 88. EMAHK’s vision is to become a leading and recognised contributor to environmental management and sustainable development in Hong Kong, as well as drive the advancement of environmental management as a professional field. To achieve this, we regularly organize seminars by prominent speakers as well as technical visits for our members as well as non-members. We actively participate in community engagements and dialogues on environmental issues. The multi-disciplinary and professional background of our members provides EMAHK the necessary diversified experience to accomplish our goals. Greeners Action (Original name: Green Student Council) is a registered charitable environmental group in Hong Kong. It was established in August 1993, it was mainly formed by a voluntary group, was comprised of university students and young professionals from different sectors. Over 20 years, Greeners Action has successfully promoted the plastics bag levy, environment lunch program, Lai See Reuse & Recycle Program, etc. We will make an all-out effort to promote green living style, especially on waste reduction, plastics pollution and food waste issues, through policy advocacy and public environmental education, in order to take Hong Kong into a new green era.

Kirsten's Zoo Limited

Kirsten’s Zoo was started by Kirsten Mitchell in 2008 as a response to a number of factors, in particular the need to have a centralised point of contact on Hong Kong Island to help home cats and dogs, as well as other animals in need. In the beginning she funded most of her endeavours out of her own pocket and with the kind assistance of friends and likeminded people. However, in the past few years, we received money from the government which helps with our ever-growing expenses. Her dedication and commitment have meant that hundreds of animals have been successfully homed over the last 20+ years. She has always depended on the financial kindness of animal lovers to help her continue to do what she does and took the decision to found a charity with a view to widening her efforts to help more animals and educating the general public in animal welfare. In the last 5 years we have seen an increase in animals being abandoned and a decrease in sponsors and funding. Many factors have contributed to this, one is the poor breeding in China influx to Hong Kong and the migration to other countries following COVID.
