The Swire Group Charitable Trust (Swire Trust) is part of the wider Swire group, which was established in 1816 and began its Chinese Mainland operations in 1866. Swire Trust was established in 1983 as the philanthropic arm of Swire Pacific Limited. The Trust receives annual income from companies in the Swire group in Hong Kong based on a percentage of Swire Pacific Limited’s profit. The Trust is a Hong Kong charity registered under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance, and is overseen by a Philanthropy Council. Guided by the Swire family motto – Esse Quam Videri – the Trust is motivated by altruism and aims to act for the direct benefit of society and greater good. Sir Robert Black Trust Fund
Background This Fund was created with an initial donation of $1 million by Sir Shiu-kin Tang to commemorate Sir Robert Black's governorship. The Fund is managed by a Statutory Committee set up under the Sir Robert Black Trust Fund Ordinance (Cap. 1101). Fund Objectives The Fund aims to provide - Type I grants: Grants to social welfare or youth organisations and other suitable institutions in support of local or overseas development programmes (e.g. leadership training courses, study tours and conferences with a high training element) which they organise or participate in through representation or delegation. Type II awards: Awards to individuals for postgraduate studies or other training programmes, local or overseas. Method of Application Applications for Type I grants or Type II awards are invited through press advertisements in mid January every year. Applications may be returned to the Sir Robert Black Trust Fund Secretariat, Room 34/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
Lord Wilson United World Colleges Scholarship Fund
Background The Lord Wilson United World Colleges Scholarship Fund was established in 1992 by means of a Declaration of Trust made by the Secretary for Home Affairs Incorporated. The Secretary for Home Affairs is the Chairman of the Lord Wilson United World Colleges Scholarship Fund Council which determines all administrative matters of the Trust Fund and the fulfilment of its purposes. Fund Objective The main objective of the Fund is to provide scholarships to students attending the United World Colleges in Hong Kong and overseas. Method of Application Applications for the United World Colleges Scholarships are normally invited between October and November every year through a press advertisement.
Li Po Chun Charitable Trust Fund
Background This Fund, founded by the late Mr. LI Po-chun, was established under the provisions of the Li Po Chun Charitable Trust Fund Ordinance (Cap. 1110). The Secretary for Home Affairs is the Chairman of the statutory committee which administers the Fund. Fund Objectives Approximately one half of the income of the Fund is used for scholarships, including overseas postgraduate scholarships, awards to students attending local tertiary institutions, the United World Colleges and Secondary 4 or above at one of four Anglo-Chinese secondary schools (namely, King's College, Queen's College, Queen Elizabeth School and Belilios Public School). The balance of the income is paid to the Director for Social Welfare for the relief of distress cases in which no adequate assistance is available from other sources. Scholarship Applications Applications for overseas postgraduate scholarships are invited through the Press in December every year. General Chinese Charities Fund
Background: The General Chinese Charities Fund consists of surpluses transferred from the Chinese Temples Fund in accordance with the provisions of the Chinese Temples Ordinance (Cap. 153). The Fund is administered by the Chinese Temples Committee chaired by the Secretary for Home Affairs. Fund Objectives: Grants from the Fund may be made to any Chinese charity in Hong Kong as the Chinese Temples Committee sees fit. In addition, sums are allocated annually to the Home Affairs Department Headquarters and to each District Office for emergency relief grants. Method of Application: Applications for charitable grants may be made through the Secretariat, Chinese Temples Committee, 34/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Applications for emergency relief arising from local incidents may be made through the District Office or the Government department concerned. For cases where Hong Kong residents are seriously injured or deceased in calamities outside Hong Kong, applications may be made to the Home Affairs Department Headquarters through the Immigration Department.
