The Hong Kong Society for the Aged (SAGE) was founded by Mrs Rose GOODSTADT MBE, our Life Adviser, in 1977 to respond to the projected rapid growth of elder needs. SAGE was the first social service organisation in Hong Kong specifically providing elderly services. SAGE 29 service units provide diversified and professional long-term care and support services for senior citizens living in elderly homes and the community to enhance their quality of life. SAGE uses a solemn dragon pattern as its emblem. Designed by Mr HE Tao, the designer of the Hong Kong SAR’s regional flag and regional emblem, it symbolises vitality, eternity, and auspiciousness. In addition, Mr Leo GOODSTADT, an inaugural adviser of our Society, named us Society for the Aged and used SAGE (meaning “a wise person”) as the English abbreviation, expressing our respect for the elderly and laying the foundation for our commitment to become an excellent elderly service organisation.
