Both our centers are registered with the Education Bureau as private schools, which ensures conforming to standards laid down by EDB. Via the Social Impact Program (SIP), our beneficiary students can have enriching and educational out- of-classroom experiences, e.g. sports training, excursions to know Hong Kong, etc; all free of charge. These experiences are designed such that to not only enrich the children's lives but also provide the platform for gaining exposure to an active and healthy lifestyle.

A scary reality awaits the millions of Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) in South-East Asia. Most, originally from the Philippines, Indonesia, and India, migrate for financial reasons; to provide a better future for themselves, their families, and the children they have to leave behind. Unfortunately, the majority fail to save, and many return home more impoverished than when they left. How can we help make the migration successful? This question prompted us to create Uplifters, www.uplifters-edu.org, in March 2018. We are the leading organization providing online education and community support to migrant domestic workers in Asia. Our signature online course, Dare to Dream, equips these workers to manage their finances effectively, prepare for the future, and improve their mental well-being. Since our inception in 2018, more than 9,500 migrant domestic workers have participated in our courses, with 83% reporting transformative changes in their lives. Beyond Dare to Dream, we offer a wide range of online courses designed to support domestic workers throughout their entire migration journey. This includes vocational training (e.g., baby care, basic caregiving skills), health and mental well-being courses (e.g., women’s health, parenting from afar), and courses to prepare for reintegration (e.g., micro-enterprise training). Our courses are facilitated by a team of more than 100 domestic workers, all Uplifters alumni who volunteer to support fellow domestic workers. The biggest challenge with online education is to get students to complete their courses. The average completion rate in the industry is ~5% (Reich & Ruipérez-Valiente, 2019) Thanks to our alumni team leaders, over 45% of our students have completed our course Dare to Dream. This is 5 to 10 times more than online education standards and especially remarkable as we are targeting an underprivileged community. MDWs use mostly basic smartphones to access the internet and have limited digital literacy and time off. In a nutshell, our goal is to combine width and depth and deliver highly impactful programmes to as many people as possible.

The Mission for Migrant Workers (MFMW Limited) of St. John’s Cathedral is a leading and trusted service provider for Asian migrant workers, and a committed advocate in building a caring and inclusive Hong Kong society. Established in 1981, MFMW is the longest existing independent service provider for migrant workers in Hong Kong and Asia. It is an outreach program of the St. John’s Cathedral of HK Sheng Kung Hui (Anglican). It is a registered charitable organization with a board comprising of 11 members from a variety of background, including churches, the legal profession, and grassroot migrant association. The board oversees the operation of MFMW and meets once every quarter. MFMW’s services are for the more than 380,000 foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong. Of this number, 98% are women who come from the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Sri Lanka and other under-developed countries in Asia. A lot of them are under-paid, over-worked, trapped in the vicious cycle of debt and discrimination, or are victims of physical and sexual abuse. MFMW’s core services include provision of information and guidance, case support, shelter provision and other rescue and emergency assistance to distressed foreign domestic workers. MFMW, as a pioneer service provider and advocate for migrants, is instrumental in building the support base for migrant workers in Hong Kong.

We collaborate with schools and other partners to offer programmes to Chinese- and English-speaking youth between the ages of 14 and 24 around our three core focus areas: Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Mental Health & Wellbeing, and Positive Youth Development. Drug and Alcohol Awareness At KELY, we work to prevent and reduce the harm associated with drug and alcohol abuse. Our Drug and Alcohol Awareness programmes equip young people with the skills and knowledge needed to avoid using drugs and alcohol, protect themselves and make healthy choices, and support their peers. Mental Health & Wellbeing We take at preventative approach to our Mental Health & Wellbeing programmes and focus on helping young people to understand their own emotions, cope with stress, and know how to help themselves as well as their peers. In situations where we identify additional mental health needs, we work with a strong network of referral organisations that can provide in-depth one-on-one counseling. Positive Youth Development Our Positive Youth Development programmes create opportunities for young people to explore and develop life skills and creative expressions, increasing their aspirations for the future.
