We then act as a platform to transfer these excessive goods to other charitable organizations that are in need. Through this work, it is our goal to see a reduction of waste and to address the problem of mismatched resources.

Food Commons Foundation Limited

The Food Commons Foundation is a tax-exempted charity that aims to take action against the problem of excessive leftover food in the society leading to a series of undesirable consequences. The primary goal is to collect edible food from the source of food waste (such as markets, retailers, etc.) to reduce environmental pollution caused by food waste and reduce the load on landfills. On the other hand, we redistribute the food, share it with different people in the community, and look for more feasible "food upcycling solutions." By linking social welfare organizations or environmental organizations, government, and industrial and commercial sectors from the society, the Foundation will make continuous efforts to solve the problem of food waste, reducing waste, helping people, and creating green job opportunities. The Foundation has always adhered to its community-oriented positioning, and further encourages support and participation from all sectors of the community, beyond a single source of funding, and hopes to extend the community experience of dealing with leftover food and food waste to the 18 districts of Hong Kong.

Fisheries Enhancement Fund, The

As part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Study, Airport Authority (AA) has committed to formulate and implement a Marine Ecology and Fisheries Enhancement Strategy (MEFES). The MEFES has been set up for the purpose of enhancing the marine environment for the benefit of marine ecology (including Chinese White Dolphins (CWDs)) and fisheries resources in the vicinity of the project area, in Hong Kong western waters and further afield into the Pearl River Estuary (PRE). The MEFES also functions to provide support and assistance to affected fishers, and to encourage more sustainable fishing operations. In accordance with the Environmental Permit (EP) conditions 2.8 and 2.13, AA has established the independent Marine Ecology Enhancement Fund (MEEF) and Fisheries Enhancement Fund (FEF), respectively, to fund initiatives proposed by third‐parties (eg Non‐governmental organisations (NGOs), researchers and the fishery sector) that support the objectives of the MEFES. A Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) was developed and approved by the Director of Environmental Protection on 18 March 2016, which describes the proposed mechanisms for implementing the FEF, as well as the goals and themes under which funding applications can be made.

Environment And Conservation Fund

The Environment and Conservation Fund Ordinance (Cap. 450), which established the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF), was enacted in June 1994. The ECF came into operation in August 1994. Section 5 of the Ordinance (Cap. 450) provides for the Secretary for Environment and Ecology to act as the trustee of the ECF. Section 7 of the Ordinance provides for the establishment of an Environment and Conservation Fund Committee.

The venue of the foundation is in a private environmental protection site with a total area of 120,000 square feet in Kam Tsin Village, Sheung Shui. EnviroTech Foundation (ETF) is established in 2007. We are a Hong Kong based government recognized charitable organization (File No: 91/9253) dedicated to empowering sustainable development with environmental technologies in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta in mainland China. The inspiration for the foundation is derived from Founding President, Dr William CG Ko who devotes his lifetime service to Hong Kong’s water supplies, in improving the quality and quantity of water supply from the East River. He participated in all the 4 stages of improvement in the East River water supply. As an engineer helping Assistant Director (AD) Lau in Stage I, as a senior engineer helping AD Leung in Stage II, as the AD himself in Stage III and as the Director of Water Supplies in Stage IV. He has thus been called “Father of East River Supply to Hong Kong”. We are an advocate for sustainable business solutions and a platform for exploring the latest development and best practices of low carbon and other environmental technologies. The Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC) has been set up since 1990 to promote public awareness of environmental issues and encourage the public to contribute actively towards a better environment. Committee members are appointed by the Chief Executive. Representatives of relevant government departments, including the Environmental Protection Department, also sit on the Committee. Since its establishment, the ECC has planned and organized many environmental events and activities for different sectors of the community.

The Environmental Management Association of Hong Kong (EMAHK) was founded in 2010. It was registered as a Society under the Hong Kong Societies Ordinance CAP.151 until March 2020 when it changed legal status and became registered as a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Ordinance Cap.622. At the same time, EMAHK received approval from the Inland Revenue Department to operate as a charitable institution in accordance with the Inland Revenue Ordinance Cap.112 Section 88. EMAHK’s vision is to become a leading and recognised contributor to environmental management and sustainable development in Hong Kong, as well as drive the advancement of environmental management as a professional field. To achieve this, we regularly organize seminars by prominent speakers as well as technical visits for our members as well as non-members. We actively participate in community engagements and dialogues on environmental issues. The multi-disciplinary and professional background of our members provides EMAHK the necessary diversified experience to accomplish our goals. Impact and Reach As an Environmental News & Data Platform, we aim to illustrate the repercussions of climate change on the human habitat with power data journalism using web and social media to reach global audiences. By extracting powerful insights from data and making this understandable for a wide audience, even for kids, we bring climate change science alive and reach new audiences. Our aim – to be ‘the BBC of environmental news’. What we do makes a real difference. We are fighting for climate justice and action. We are helping Conservation NGOs and to safeguard wildlife – including endangered species – from threats such as habitat loss and poaching. We are working hard to educate and inform diverse audiences, in order to overcome temporal conceptualisation difficulties and the issue of ‘baseline shifting’.
