Kirsten’s Zoo was started by Kirsten Mitchell in 2008 as a response to a number of factors, in particular the need to have a centralised point of contact on Hong Kong Island to help home cats and dogs, as well as other animals in need. In the beginning she funded most of her endeavours out of her own pocket and with the kind assistance of friends and likeminded people. However, in the past few years, we received money from the government which helps with our ever-growing expenses. Her dedication and commitment have meant that hundreds of animals have been successfully homed over the last 20+ years. She has always depended on the financial kindness of animal lovers to help her continue to do what she does and took the decision to found a charity with a view to widening her efforts to help more animals and educating the general public in animal welfare. In the last 5 years we have seen an increase in animals being abandoned and a decrease in sponsors and funding. Many factors have contributed to this, one is the poor breeding in China influx to Hong Kong and the migration to other countries following COVID.

Animal Friends is a non-profit organization in Hong Kong dedicated to reducing the number of stray animals through desexing programs. They focus on providing free desexing services for cats and dogs in remote communities and villages, aiming to control uncontrolled breeding. They also work to educate pet owners on responsible pet care.

Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation Limited

Funded by donations from local individuals and local companies, Sai Kung Stray Friends are a Hong Kong volunteer group who rescue abandoned, sick, injured and stray puppies/dogs, and extend the chance to fully recover through medical care, love and short-term sheltering until they find permanent families and homes. We currently have over 200 dogs at our Sai Kung kennel, they are all waiting for their forever homes. One of them could be perfect for you. It is so rewarding to know that a dog could have a better life because of you. Their love and gratitude will transform your life and teach you lessons about life that you never even expected. Our meals-on-wheels program delivers food and clean water to street dogs 365 days a year. We have a small group of volunteers who personally deliver food and water to the street dogs and make sure they have shelter and warmth. Group also desex, microchip and rabies vaccinate the dogs, who live happily in harmony with the local villages. We have earned a long-standing reputation in the local community. The charity has been running for over a decade under the leadership of our Chairman Narelle Pamuk and our kennel manager Kathy, assisted by a team of regular volunteers. Your support, whether be a donor, a sponsor, a kennel volunteer, a volunteer helping on the street selling soft toys, group fundraising or donating gifts to sell, it allows us to do what we do best: “helping dogs to have a better life”. Plastic Free Seas Limited

Plastic Free Seas (PFS) focuses on education to teach not only about the problems of plastic marine pollution but also the solutions people need to take on and push for to reduce the scourge of plastic polluting Hong Kong waters and beyond. To date PFS has worked in over 120 Hong Kong schools with an outreach of more than 33,000 students. PFS also initiates action campaigns at individual, community, corporate and government levels.

Hong Kong Paws Foundation Limited

Hong Kong Paws Foundation (HK Paws) is a locally registered, non-profit animal welfare charity, operated by a group of dedicated volunteers on generous donations. We rescue cats and dogs that have been abused, abandoned, injured, and displaced. Through veterinary treatment, behavior training, socialization, and foster services - and by prioritizing animal welfare - we hope to eventually rehome every one of them to the best possible match of adopters. Since early 2005, we have been working closely with local animal shelters, fosters and adopters, rehoming thousands of cats and dogs. In October 2011, HK Paws was officially recognized by the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department as a Hong Kong charity (Charity No.: 91/11168). In 2022, The Bow-Wow Inn by HK Paws was born as a halfway house for dogs waiting to be rehomed. Operating a boarding center on our own relieves us from the pressure of jam-packed local shelters and dwindling foster help in recent years. It allows us to organize rescue operations with great confidence that we could provide immediate care and shelter for furry kids in need.

Paws United Charity is a non-profit, all-volunteer rescue organization established and registered in Hong Kong. Our mission is to continue to improve the lives of animals in our community by promoting responsible pet ownership, humane treatment of animals and choosing adoption instead of purchase. Paws United Charity provide the following services: Rescue: We rescue animals from various channels, including Government kennels, families who can no longer keep their pets, breeders who no longer want the animals, abandoned animals on the streets and born strays. Rehabilitate: We provide medical treatment for all rescue animals, including costly surgical procedures, vaccinations, as well as de-flea and de-sex procedures. We make sure the animals are placed in foster homes that offer a safe and welcoming environment to rehabilitate them mentally and physically. Re-home: Our end-goal is to successfully find forever homes for all of the animals that we rescue. Our volunteers carefully screen and guide interested parties through the adoption process so that both adopting families and animals can go home happy.

Fruit Garden Social Enterprise is a non-profit-making organization recognized in Hong Kong that committed to rescuing the abandoned fur babies established in 2013. In the past 6 years, we rescued more than 600 fur babies and found them a loving home. We fight for animal rights, provides temporary housing, arranges for adoption and helps them to find a warm home. Our Mission While helping fur babies, we also gives priority in hiring disadvantaged groups in the society.
