A scary reality awaits the millions of Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) in South-East Asia. Most, originally from the Philippines, Indonesia, and India, migrate for financial reasons; to provide a better future for themselves, their families, and the children they have to leave behind. Unfortunately, the majority fail to save, and many return home more impoverished than when they left. How can we help make the migration successful? This question prompted us to create Uplifters, www.uplifters-edu.org, in March 2018. We are the leading organization providing online education and community support to migrant domestic workers in Asia. Our signature online course, Dare to Dream, equips these workers to manage their finances effectively, prepare for the future, and improve their mental well-being. Since our inception in 2018, more than 9,500 migrant domestic workers have participated in our courses, with 83% reporting transformative changes in their lives. Beyond Dare to Dream, we offer a wide range of online courses designed to support domestic workers throughout their entire migration journey. This includes vocational training (e.g., baby care, basic caregiving skills), health and mental well-being courses (e.g., women’s health, parenting from afar), and courses to prepare for reintegration (e.g., micro-enterprise training). Our courses are facilitated by a team of more than 100 domestic workers, all Uplifters alumni who volunteer to support fellow domestic workers. The biggest challenge with online education is to get students to complete their courses. The average completion rate in the industry is ~5% (Reich & Ruipérez-Valiente, 2019) Thanks to our alumni team leaders, over 45% of our students have completed our course Dare to Dream. This is 5 to 10 times more than online education standards and especially remarkable as we are targeting an underprivileged community. MDWs use mostly basic smartphones to access the internet and have limited digital literacy and time off. In a nutshell, our goal is to combine width and depth and deliver highly impactful programmes to as many people as possible.

We are a Hong Kong Section 88 charity. At The New Normal we offer free mental health support for anyone through regular peer support groups, events, training and resources. We run and collaborate on in-person events throughout Hong Kong, run by passionate, trained volunteers with lived experience.

儘管香港有很多愛護動物的主人，但香港仍有很多流浪動物默默地忍受著顛沛流離、饑腸轆轆的日子，更有動物受重傷、被棄養，甚至被人虐待。有見及此，浪浪之家致力為這些因悲痛過去以致身體或性格有缺憾的動物提供一個「家」，讓牠們也能快樂地生活。 浪浪之家 (Home for Homeless Dog) 成立於2019年，並坐落於大埔一個偏遠村落。創辦人 April 自幼喜愛狗隻，為建設一個狗狗的安樂窩，毅然辭職賣樓斥資興建狗舍，全心全意地照顧流浪狗，並為牠們嚴選合適的領養者，希望可憐的狗隻能開心過活。 ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Despite having many animal-loving owners in Hong Kong, there are still numerous stray animals silently enduring a life of uncertainty and hunger. Some animals suffer from severe injuries, abandonment, and even abuse. In response to this situation, Home for Homeless Dog is dedicated to providing a "home" for these animals who have experienced a painful past, resulting in physical or behavioral challenges, allowing them to live happily. Established in 2019, Home for Homeless Dog is located in a remote village in Tai Po. The founder, April, has had a love for dogs since childhood. Determined to create a haven for dogs, she resigned from her job and sold her property to build a shelter. April wholeheartedly cares for stray dogs and carefully selects suitable adopters, hoping to provide a joyful life for these unfortunate animals.

Rise Wise Foundation Limited

Rise Wise is a learning centre that supports children and adolescents with a wide range of individual needs, ranging from profound and multiple, complex learning disabilities to autism. With a group of psychologists and behavioural therapists with over 10 years of experience and the sole US-certified canine-assisted intervention specialist in Hong Kong, our centre consists of various programs to help children to learn and grow in a caring and loving environment. Our behavioural therapists are highly trained by leading experts in the field and are skilled in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), using Verbal Behavior (VB) and using Natural Environment Teaching (NET). Along with parent support services, our comprehensive and personalised curriculums are built to help parents and their children accomplish behavioural goals. We take great pride in providing our community with high quality, practical and patient-centric care services.

Sunshine Action is a non-profit organisation founded in Hong Kong in 2008 focusing on poverty-relief programmes. Since our establishment, the charity has partnered with 600 local centres and organisations across 20 countries including the USA, Chile, and Vietnam, helping over 300,000 individuals and families. Our programs span 14 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, mainly focusing on food and hunger. We are non-religious, non-political and non-discriminatory, and are also 100% based on volunteers which means that 95% of funding goes directly towards those in need.

We believe in setting authentic goals and sharing them widely to connect with people around us. Communication and connections are the tools and our most valuable resources. We want to be inspired and get excited. Honesty, trust, personal responsibility keeps us accountable. Bring in Change aims to improve the elderly’s mental, physical and social health through sports. We have been in contact with the elderly during the pandemic, delivering essential items to them and witnessed the significant deterioration of their mental and physical well-being, especially some of them have lost their better half under the fifth wave of covid-19 in the past two to three months. We hope, with the participation of sports trainers and volunteers, to bring new experiences to the elderly and lift them up again during this difficult time, so that they will be ageing well. Exercise is undoubtedly the simplest way to keep us happy and healthy. Yet the elderly has been staying at home most of the time these two years, not only are they lack of physical activities, they are over worried and depressed about the current situation, having difficulties to access updated information and understand the regulations they need to follow in the society. Most of us train in the gym, do bootcamps, run on road or off trail and participate in different kinds of sports on a regular bases to keep our body and mind fit. Why don’t we spend some time to do it together with the elderly, build relationship with them and help them improve their life style for active ageing? We aim to serve elderly of different strength levels: sedentary, lightly active and active old people. We will provide them with different levels of trainings, which aim to improve their muscle strength, coordination and body balance, in order to avoid accidents and injuries. The project will link up experienced sport coaches, trainers, running coaches and sports lovers in the community to serve the elderly. We believe that, as sports lovers ourselves, it is easier to build up a friendly long-term relationship with the elderly through sports. Besides sports, we would like to organize photo shooting sessions for the elderly, during which we will talk about death planning with them, and take cheerful photos for them which can later be used as their funeral portrait. We believe that every one, regardless of the age, should have a photo that they love that can be presented in their funeral. Some elderly may not have a chance to take photos, not to mention a proper portrait, or some have never taken photos with their family. It would be a good opportunity for them and for their family to think about death together, to prepare well and in a way that they prefer.

Grassroots Future is a registered charity in Hong Kong which came out of a desire to help refugee-led initiatives and grassroots organizations working with refugees build capacity. Grassroots Future envisions to build capacity among refugee-led initiatives, focusing on community building through events and projects driven by members of the refugee community. Education: Supporting the needs of young people and adults through privately funded vocational training, mentorship, workshops and general skills training to improve capacity and self-sufficiency. Supporting the educational expenses of children through our initiatives and event programming. Community building: Community outreach and cultural events, which are curated by the refugee community, to engage different groups within society. Well-being: Provide safe spaces for healing and mental well-being through the arts and recreational activities.

Strive Foundation supports Strive Gold Team program which helps underprivileged and many talented girls to utilize basketball as a vehicle to earn scholarships in the United States to better their education and improve their lives. It uses basketball to teach teamwork, leadership, and perseverance, while providing academic support and help girls earn scholarships to those who excel in both areas. The program also includes internships, mentoring, and community outreach to build social impact experience. Selected participants may gain overseas exposure through international basketball opportunities and partnerships with other organizations, with an annual AAU summer trip to the United States to connect with college coaches and compete at a high level. China trips throughout the year for basketball competitions are also to keep the competitiveness high. The overarching goal is to help girls access higher education and future career opportunities, supported by a strong network designed to sustain leadership and advocacy within their communities.

Kirsten's Zoo Limited

Kirsten’s Zoo was started by Kirsten Mitchell in 2008 as a response to a number of factors, in particular the need to have a centralised point of contact on Hong Kong Island to help home cats and dogs, as well as other animals in need. In the beginning she funded most of her endeavours out of her own pocket and with the kind assistance of friends and likeminded people. However, in the past few years, we received money from the government which helps with our ever-growing expenses. Her dedication and commitment have meant that hundreds of animals have been successfully homed over the last 20+ years. She has always depended on the financial kindness of animal lovers to help her continue to do what she does and took the decision to found a charity with a view to widening her efforts to help more animals and educating the general public in animal welfare. In the last 5 years we have seen an increase in animals being abandoned and a decrease in sponsors and funding. Many factors have contributed to this, one is the poor breeding in China influx to Hong Kong and the migration to other countries following COVID.

We take an inclusive and strengths-based approach to youth development through: Multicultural and inclusive tools and perspectives Harnessing and amplifying the strengths of each youth Focusing on aspirations, purpose, and self-growth Through collaborations with key industry players, youths are provided with career guidance and mentorship, tips for successful interviews and CV writing. Every year throughout Asia millions of men and women immigrate to find work needed to support their families. This migration process is fraught with challenges, many of which are initiated by unethical and often illegal agency practices. Employment agencies are often legally required for the migration process. But rather than representing the best interests of the migrant worker and the eventual employer, these agencies often manipulate the process for their own selfish interest. This can leave the workers in significant debt, can lead to exploitation, and often leaves the employer without a suitable employee match. Migrasia is a non-profit making online platform hoping to end unethical agency practices, and professionalize the migrant labor placement process. Our platform allows both workers and employers to rate and comment on their respective employment agencies. We hope to professionalise the migrant labour placement process by bringing transparency to agency practices, both good and bad. We are dedicated to promoting a fair recruitment process for migrant workers, and to ensuring employers find the right match for their families. Exploitation of domestic workers is a major social concern in Hong Kong and throughout Asia. These workers make up nearly 4% of HK's population, and nearly 10% of HK's working population, making them vital to the success of HK's economy. Because of HK's ageing population, more migrant laborers will be needed in the coming years. Migrasia will provide a transparent pathway for migration, both for employer and employee. Labour migration is going to continue to grow throughout Asia, making Migrasia essential. Migrasia: Rate, Review, Reform!
