The New Voice Club of Hong Kong was founded by an English laryngectomee, Mr. O Greenhalgh with around 20 laryngeal cancer survivors in 1984. At the same time, the Club was formally registered as non-profit making organization under the Societies Ordinance. During the first phase of the establishment, the Club did not have resources, premise and staff. We could only organize monthly meeting in community centers and provide limited services to the members. In 1992, we began to receive subvention from the Community Chest of Hong Kong & the Hong Kong Cancer Fund. The New Voice Club of Hong Kong aimed at developing the self-help and mutual help spirit among the laryngectomees & the laryngeal cancer patients so as to help them to regain their normal speech & to reintegrate into the community; to fight for a better disability allowance; to launch social services; and to participate in anti-cancer activities.
