In 2015, the UN Climate Summit (COP21) adopted The Paris Agreement to limit temperature rise. CCIL as an observer in COP21 was motivated to stimulate the Hong Kong community into climate action, linking global, regional and local climate agenda. CCIL is registered under the laws of Hong Kong as a non-profit and tax-exempt charity.

Earth.Org is a not-for-profit environmental organisation based in Hong Kong. Our aim is to bring attention to what is happening to natural ecosystems worldwide. We advocate for sustainable economic policies, for the protection of the natural environment and an extension of governance or oversight to cover the global commons. Impact and Reach As an Environmental News & Data Platform, we aim to illustrate the repercussions of climate change on the human habitat with power data journalism using web and social media to reach global audiences. By extracting powerful insights from data and making this understandable for a wide audience, even for kids, we bring climate change science alive and reach new audiences. Our aim – to be ‘the BBC of environmental news’. What we do makes a real difference. We are fighting for climate justice and action. We are helping Conservation NGOs and to safeguard wildlife – including endangered species – from threats such as habitat loss and poaching. We are working hard to educate and inform diverse audiences, in order to overcome temporal conceptualisation difficulties and the issue of ‘baseline shifting’. But we can’t do it alone: our successes are only possible due to our volunteers, partners, readers and the generosity of our supporters.

The Environment and Conservation Fund Ordinance (Cap. 450), which established the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF), was enacted in June 1994. The ECF came into operation in August 1994. Section 5 of the Ordinance (Cap. 450) provides for the Secretary for Environment and Ecology to act as the trustee of the ECF. Section 7 of the Ordinance provides for the establishment of an Environment and Conservation Fund Committee.

The Environmental Management Association of Hong Kong (EMAHK) was founded in 2010. It was registered as a Society under the Hong Kong Societies Ordinance CAP.151 until March 2020 when it changed legal status and became registered as a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Ordinance Cap.622. At the same time, EMAHK received approval from the Inland Revenue Department to operate as a charitable institution in accordance with the Inland Revenue Ordinance Cap.112 Section 88. EMAHK’s vision is to become a leading and recognised contributor to environmental management and sustainable development in Hong Kong, as well as drive the advancement of environmental management as a professional field. To achieve this, we regularly organize seminars by prominent speakers as well as technical visits for our members as well as non-members. ABLE Charity first came together back in 1993 as a Grassroots environmental action group. It was founded as a direct consequence from a lack of protection and a voice, for Lamma’s environment. A campaign was launched to stop the reclamation of a beautiful beach on the island which resulted in a success story that led to the official registration of the group as a charity with the Hong Kong government where it remains so to this very day. The charity has had a colourful history with a considerable amount of success, yet has always chosen to keep a low profile in the grand scheme of things to just get on with it. The Vision The Lamma Forest is a natural resource for all generations present and future, one whose value will increase in the years to come. The land currently has no adequate protection so the vision is to rezone the land into a Conservation Area (CA) thereby safe guarding it for the future. The Lamma Forest is a gift for one and all to enjoy. Our Mission We want to raise awareness about a fundamental integral link between people and ecology. They are one and the same, yet our modern lifestyle inadvertently separated as well as distanced humans from their environments. This has had serious consequences which have become quite obvious today, but less so in the early 1990’s of Hong Kong.
