Connecting Myanmar Limited
EducationInternational and Foreign AffairsEvery journey has a story to tell. It all started in the summer of 2011, as students back then from various disciplines at the University of Hong Kong, we joined a programme called the Migrant Outreach Education Initiative (MOEI) organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences. In the programme, we were given the opportunity to teach English to a group of Myanmar refugee / migrant children along the Thai-Burma border. While the children absorb knowledge at a speed of a sponge, we volunteers too were given a pair of new lens as we see a world beyond our privileged setting. As we all returned to Hong Kong with a heavy heart, we pondered on how we could give back to this community, a group of smiling faces who took us in almost immediately as one of them - as family. It was then we decided to use what we learnt in University, our knowledge from our respective disciplines, to pay it forward to this land we proudly called our second home. And this has become the spark of our journey. From there on sprang our School Construction programme, Playground Renovation programme, Street Law programme, Journalism Literacy programme, Medical programme and many more. Each year, University students from various disciplines through different summer voluntary programmes head to the Thai-Burma border and various cities in Myanmar to conduct workshops and projects, translating their knowledge into practical use, and along so built strong and lasting friendships with the Myanmar community. From developing programmes and projects, in the year 2017, we also began funding our first batch of Myanmar students to Universities abroad via our Scholarship Scheme - many of which we got acquainted years ago in our summer programmes as participants or members of our local partnering organisations. The journey continues as we explore what lies ahead in the next chapter - and we invite you too to join us as we dream and envision an empathetic world where everyone has the equal opportunity to realise their potentials and aspirations.

Chatteris Educational Foundation
EducationPublic and Societal BenefitWho We Are Chatteris exists to support young people in Hong Kong with their English language learning. This was true when we first started in 1990 with a small group of volunteers organising ad hoc visits to local secondary schools, and it is still true today after growing to a team of 100 international tutors placed fulltime in 45 schools across three different age groups. Although a lot has changed in this time, we have always remained true to the lessons learnt by our founding trustees when volunteering all those years ago. Offering students opportunities for authentic, relaxed, and communicative use of English transforms their views of the language, especially for those from challenging socio-economic backgrounds, and our enthusiastic and committed tutors continue to provide such opportunities to this day. What We Do Each year, Chatteris currently connects 100 tutors from around the world to a local Hong Kong school for a 9-month placement. Chatteris Tutors move away from the traditional model of the teacher as they do not focus on topics such as perfecting students’ grammatical accuracy and are not obliged to strictly follow the local curriculum. Instead, they act as mentors who spend time both inside and outside the classroom delivering creative English-based activities that cater to a wide range of student interests and needs. Overall, our tutors create an authentic, living English environment in the schools they are placed in, transforming students attitudes towards English from the pressurised, exam-focussed approach commonly found in schools. They do this through a range of activities including interactive, engaging lessons; extracurricular activities; and experiential learning opportunities. Altogether, this helps to develop students who are more culturally aware, confident, and capable of using English as a method of communication - essential qualities needed for a successful career in Asia's World City. With our focus on working with students from less privileged backgrounds, we aim to intend that English is never a barrier for these students. By allowing them access to more educational and professional opportunities, we are working towards overcoming the growing challenge of inequality in Hong Kong. How You Can Support Us Chatteris is always looking to benefit our beneficiary students with new opportunities by offering them professional experience, whole-person development, and experiential learning activities. If you are able to support with any of the following through your expertise and experience then please just get in touch! - Guest talks in schools - Office visits to your HQ - Student mentoring - Skills based workshops - Internships/job shadowing - Experiences for students

Hans Andersen Club Limited
Arts and Culture and HumanitiesEducationWe take underprivileged children and families as our service targets. We focus on children's value education by providing creative storytelling activities, as stories encourage children to imagine and put themselves in others' shoes, which prepare them to face and address future difficulties. Also, reading can broaden children's horizons, nourish their minds, and build up a positive attitude, we, therefore, provide picture books borrowing service and digital reading resources to members. Afterschool development services combined with storytelling activities can also develop children's self-confidence and empathy, improve their communication skills as well as enhance their community engagement. Storytelling is always the best way to reach our second and third goals - to cultivate children's positive mindset and to embrace social inclusion.
