Society of True Light Limited

Society of True Light is the first non-profit organisation that is advocating for the banning of conversion therapy and all other forms of sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE) in Hong Kong. We were established on 17 May 2018 (International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia). We have no religious background and aim to promote self-acceptance of sexual minorities through various means such as action, academic research, education, supervision, and publication. Society of True Light has organized various events in the past, such as the pioneering international conference on LGBT+ affirmative counseling practices in 2023, the Weight of Love Exhibition and Theatre Workshop in 2024, and made various publications, such as 2022 Research Report on SOCE in Hong Kong and LGB Counselling Handbook. Your generous donation will help Society of True Light organize more activities to promote the psychological well-being of sexual minorities in Hong Kong in the future. In February 1904, the Hong Kong New Territories Missionary Society was officially established with the promotion of many people including Pastor Pierius and Pastor Willis of the London Missionary Society. In recent years, about 80 believers have been steadily attending worship services in our church. The ministry centers we promote include rooting in the Bible, prayer and spiritual practice, caring for neighbors and the church family.

The Chiang Chen Industrial Charity Foundation was established in 1990 by Dr. Chiang Chen, founder and chairman of the Chen Hsong Holdings Limited. Dr. Chiang came to Hong Kong from his hometown in Shandong Province, China in 1949. Credit to his hard work and devotion to the manufacturing industry, he is recognized as a prominent leader in the industry and a much admired and respected role model for industrialists in China. Today, the Chen Hsong Group is one of the leading manufacturers of plastic injection moulding machines in the world and operates diversified business globally. His belief in "Enriching the Livelihood of People by Industry, Strengthening the Country through a Prosperous Society" was inspired by the quick recovery of the economies of Japan and Germany after World War II. Dr. Chiang firmly believes that advanced manufacturing technologies will bring about the modernization of China and raise the living standard of all Chinese people. Dr. Chiang therefore donated all his shares of the Chen Hsong Group to establish the Chiang Chen Industrial Charity Foundation.

We focus in three areas- the elderly, disadvantaged youth and ethnic minorities. We visit/ meet with NGOs in the fourth quarter of each year. After our visits we decide which NGOs we should ask to apply to us. After considering the application we distribute grants by not later than March. We wish our grant to have a transformational effect and therefore specialise in small NGOs with annual turnover of less than $10 million. We also like newer NGOs with dynamic leadership. We only make grants to those bodies with a section 88 IRO certificate. Last year (year 2020) we made some emergency grants to some NGOs who were suffering financially because of the effects of the protests and Covid. This is unlikely to be repeated and we will return to our Annual allocation exercise.
