- Food Commons Foundation is a tax-exempt charity dedicated to tackling the problem of excessive leftover food and its social, environmental, and economic consequences. Our primary goal is to collect edible surplus food from sources such as markets and retailers, reducing landfill pressure and environmental pollution while redistributing nutritious food to those in need. We also explore innovative food up-cycling solutions to maximize the value of rescued food. By linking social welfare and environmental organizations, government, and the business sector, the Foundation strives to reduce waste, support communities, and create green job opportunities. We remain committed to a community-oriented approach, encouraging broad participation beyond a single funding source, and aim to extend food recovery efforts to all 18 districts of Hong Kong. Food Commons is the community-based resource network under the Foundation, fostering long-term collaboration among action groups, businesses, government, and public organizations to manage surplus food effectively. Since its beginnings as the Food Sharing Project in 2009, Food Commons has pioneered food recovery initiatives that combine environmental protection with community mutual aid. Operating as Food Commons Foundation Limited since 2015, we have rescued more than 11,373 metric tons of edible food, benefiting over 10.07 million people. Every HK$1 donation generates HK$6.5 worth of fresh food, supporting hundreds of grassroots families and elderly each week. With shifting government policies and the conclusion of our market recovery project, continued community support is critical to sustain this safety net and prevent fresh food from being discarded.
- For over 25 years FOCUS has been a trusted resource for Hong Kong parents, educators and medical professionals seeking to learn how to better support the academic and social lives of children with mainstream learning differences. FOCUS aims to improve educational and life outcomes of children with AD/HD and SpLD by expanding understanding and raising awareness of what it means to have a mind that learns differently Our mission is is to improve the education of mainstream students who are challenged by Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) by providing accurate evidence-based information, practical strategies and support to parents and professionals in education and healthcare and by improving understanding of how learning differences impact youth both emotionally and academically.
