The primary activity of The Friends is to manage the Prince Philip Scholarship, established in 1981. Organised by Fresh Wave, the annual Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival with the aim to promote and encourage local short film production, and to discover and nurture young talents by providing funding support and a platform for showcasing their work, while enhancing their technical skills and quality through training. The Festival comprises of “Local Competition” and “International Selection.” On the other hand, the Festival collaborates with overseas film festivals and organisations in screening outstanding short films from around the world, so as to foster exchange between local and international film cultures and broaden the vision of local film practitioners and audience. Fresh Wave also continues to explore into the areas of film criticism, outreach and cultural exchange, building a conducive environment for filmmaking and appreciation through retrospectives, school screenings and talk events.

EducationMr. Lai Yung Kwoon, founder of Fortune Pharmacal, hopes that the idea "Always go one step further" can be adopted widely in the society. The world would be better if people would care about others around them and everyone can lead a healthy, happy life. Mr. Lai, therefore, has set up the Fortune Pharmacal Lai Yung Kwoon Charity Fund. Fortune Pharmacal contributes part of its annual income to the Fund for charitable purposes to bring love and care to people of different levels in the society. Our foundation have funded programs for supporting teacher-researchers in China, and established an online platform for them to share their learning outcomes. Programs included “Workshops for rural school teachers from Tonghua City, Jilin Province”, “Summer seminars in educational administration and policy for Xi'an Jiaotong University young teachers”, “Training for Northern Jiangsu Province teacher-researchers”, and “East China Normal University language training course for rural primary school teacher-researchers”. The fund offers scholarship in different institutions to encourage young people to study. Since 2011, we have sponsored ““A Step Further to Achieve Higher: Mobile Schooling” Project, led by university student volunteering as mentor to secondary school student. The “Mobile Classroom” program establishes strong link to high school liberal studies curriculum, and offers students with financial burden the opportunities to experience outdoor learning. The program puts “invitational approach” of education into practice, with core values of respect, trust, optimism, intentionality and care; and delivers “Lion Rock Spirit” in pursuing their dreams and seeking happiness. In 2016, Fortune Pharmacal established “CSR Volunteer Group” and extended funding for various charitable purposes and encourages employees to participate in volunteering activities; further fulfilling social enterprise citizen responsibility.

Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission, The
HealthThe Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission started the work of Ling Oi in 1970. Our halfway house helps young men who had completed a drug rehabilitation treatment to re-integrate into the society. In the 1980’s, the drug problem was getting more severe. In 1984, we started our gospel rehabilitation centre in Tan Ka Wan, Sai Kung. The treatment centre now can serve 40 young persons and the halfway house can serve 34 persons. Now, Ling Oi provides a holistic rehabilitation for male drug addicts. Our services include outreaching service, rehabilitation treatment, social re-entry halfway lodging service, family support and counseling service, and aftercare services.
